Cognitive Solutions Learning Center is offering group programs for students in Kindergarten-12th grade. Groups will meet twice weekly for a five week period,and are broken down as follows:
Reading classes
The fee for our summer reading groups is $600 and includes all materials.
Emergent Readers Group:
Our Emergent Reader Group is structured for those children still developing pre-literacy and emergent reader skills or who have struggled with phonics patterns in the past school year. This will be a small group (2-5 children) led by a Learning Specialist at Cognitive Solutions Learning Center and is fitting for Kindergartners and First Graders. The group’s Dr. Seuss theme will explore CVC words and rhyming patterns in and out of context. The sessions will emphasize short vowel sounds and allow students to explore early reading through word work, games, crafts, reading and writing. This 5-week class will be held Monday and Wednesday at 10am (1 hour) starting the last week in June (no meeting on July 4th).
Beginning Readers Group:
Our Beginning reading group will focus on mastering long vowel sounds, vowel teams, diphthongs, digraphs and blends. These troublesome letter combinations will be mastered with inspiration from your children’s favorite characters: Scooby Doo, Sponge Bob, Disney friends and more! This group is structured for early readers (first and second graders) who may be struggling or simply need a little more reinforcement. This small group (2-5 children) is taught by a Learning Specialist from Cognitive Solutions Learning Center and will be held Wednesday and Friday mornings at 11am for one hour. Classes are 5 weeks long and begin the last week in June with no meeting scheduled for the July 4th holiday.Intermediate Readers Group:
This Intermediate Reader group will focus on comprehension skills. Children will learn and practice inferencing, prediction, main idea, and summarizing skills that are necessary for comprehending text. This group will be exposed to mystery novels, figurative language, and age appropriate poetry. Everyone can benefit from these skills, but this group is tailored to children between 2 and 4th grades who have age appropriate decoding skills. Children will have the opportunity to read and write as well as answer comprehension based questions in fun and exciting ways! This hour-long class will be on Mondays at 11am and Fridays at 10am, starting the last week of June and continuing for 5 weeks.
Executive functioning classes
Cognitive Solutions Learning Center, Inc. has created a program that promotes the development of organizational skills for students in grades K-8. The program will provide each student with many of the tools and strategies necessary to help the child take a more systematic and organized approach to their learning experience.
Learning organizational strategies and practicing consistent routines can help students achieve great success both in school and in their personal lives. The earlier students adopt and implement strategies, the easier problem solving is for them.
